Welcome to Columbia Academy!
At Columbia Academy, serving grades six through eight, we immerse our students in a caring community and challenging curriculum. We seek to instill, in our students, a strong belief in themselves and their ability to be successful in school and in life through sustained effort. We seek to develop the whole child through rigorous academics and an array of opportunities in the arts, as well as through addressing the social and emotional well being of each student.
Our academic day is organized in blocks to maximize class time and minimize the amount of instructional time that can be lost in transitions in a school. Students have the opportunity to take Pre Advanced Placement classes in English, Science and Social Studies, as well as to gain high school credit in Algebra and Geometry. Elective classes are available in band, choir, visual arts, media arts, engineering, and Spanish. Native speakers of Spanish are also able to gain a high school elective credit in Heritage Spanish.
Columbia Academy provides intensive support to students who excel through our Honors program, for students who are in the middle through AVID and for those who are struggling through our intensive interventions in smaller group settings. In addition, all students at Columbia Academy have their own computer that they bring home with them each day. Online personalized learning complements instruction from our teachers.
Students continue their learning and discover new interests and talents through pursuit of their interests at Columbia Academy after the regular school day ends. Our high-quality, after-school programs include an award-winning robotics program, an esteemed theater program and a wide variety of athletics.
Columbia Academy recognizes that the middle years can be a time when social and emotional challenges increase in intensity. We have a dedicated group of professionals who work to address these needs through in-school counseling and support services. We work hard to make sure all of our students know they are in a community of learners that cares for them as individuals.
Columbia Academy is a very diverse school with an amazing group of students and a dedicated staff. Great things happen for our students every day. We invite you to come check out the worlds of opportunities we create for all of our learners at Columbia Academy.
Students interested in sports may participate in volleyball, football, basketball, baseball and softball at Columbia Academy. For all other sports, students play and practice in a blended group with the high school teams. We also have an after-school robotics team and annual musical. In addition to our wide variety of activities, students can receive assistance with completing their homework at our after school homework labs.
