Goal Area 1

  • 2019-2020 Goal 
    Students enrolled in PreK3 and PreK 4 will show growth in all assessed areas as measured by PreK assessments given in the Fall of 2019 and Spring of 2020.

    Strategies

    • Implementation of Creative Curriculum and TS Gold assessment
    • PreK 3 and PreK 4 teachers meet monthly to discuss data and individualize student instruction based on assessments
    • Early childhood screening for PreK 3 and PreK 4

    Increase reading proficiency by 5% for third grade students from all ethnic groups as measured by the MCA Reading in 2019-2020.

    • Assess students using FastBridge Assessments
    • Staff provide systematic literacy interventions

    The achievement gap in Columbia Heights Public Schools will decrease by 8% in the 2019-2020 school year as measured by the MCA reading in grades 3-11.

    • Professional Development in Culturally Relevant Teaching 
    • Analyzing data broken down by student groups  in PLCs
    • Equity book clubs

Goal Area 4

  • 2019-2020 Goal
    Increase the percentage of students by 10% overall that reach proficiency on the following benchmarks:  MCA reading at 4th, 7th, and 10th and MCA math at 5th, 8th and 11th.

    Strategies

    • Implement research-based interventions in reading and math
    • Communicate to families progress toward benchmarks from early childhood through graduation with College & Career guides
    • Provide opportunities to earn free college credit while in high school through the Early College Program
    • Offer advanced coursework for students such as Honors, Advanced Placement® or Pre-Advanced Placement®
    • Support students through programs such as AVID and College Possible
    • Provide support after school through the ENCORE program

    Increase graduation rate by 2 percent from 2018-2019 to 2019-2020.

    • American Indian Specialist to support students academically and socially

    Results and Response
    The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has not yet released the 2020 Graduation Rates. The graduation rate for Columbia Heights High School in 2019 was 84.1 percent. The overall graduation rate for Minnesota was 83.7 percent in 2019. The District will post the 2020 results online when they are released.
