Have you ever considered changing a child’s life by helping them learn to read? Columbia Heights School District is pleased to be partnering with the Minnesota Reading Corps and is seeking tutors to work with students in kindergarten through third grade. We're still actively seeking tutors for the 2018-2019 school year!
Here are just a few other reasons to join the Reading Corps mission:
Almost 25 percent of Minnesota’s third graders do not read at grade level.
Third grade is critical, as a child shifts from “learning to read” to “reading to learn."
Children who read well are more likely to graduate from high school
Tutors are asked to commit through the school year, beginning in January 2019. Participants will receive training from Minnesota Reading Corps and will be supported by a licensed teacher in the school. This is a paid service position through AmeriCorps and offers several potential benefits including: bi-weekly living stipend, health insurance, Segal Education Award (upon successful completion of service), and access to a wealth of resources exclusive to members in AmeriCorps programs.
The deadline to apply in order to be in a school this school year is Dec. 10, 2018. If you or someone you know would be a great addition to our team, please reach out to our Reading Corps Recruiter Jessica Proskin at firstname.lastname@example.org or 507-338-2585 today! She is happy to answer any questions and help you navigate every step from application to interview!
