A Note from Food Services: Looking Out for Our Students

The Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) Food Services Department provides students with access to a variety of foods that meet the health and nutritional needs of our students. We serve foods that meet state and federal requirements, which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines.

In regards to the recent recall on Romaine Lettuce, the Food Services Department is committed to taking every measure possible to ensure CHPS students are protected from this outbreak.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has been able to determine the source of the current Romaine Lettuce outbreak to Central California and has reclassified their warning to only include Romaine grown in this region.

All Romaine Lettuce that was received by CHPS prior to the CDC warning was tossed as directed by the Minnesota Department of Education. Food Services is working with our Sodexo Produce Vendor to get Romaine Lettuce from other growing locations as it becomes available, along with iceberg and spinach.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this issue, please contact Food Services Manager Ciara McDonald at 763-528-4527. As always the health and safety of our students is the utmost importance.
